You are strongly encouraged to preview the
course, except private property areas.
-
The course is in no way patrolled or reviewed
for snow safety or avalanche danger before the
race. When you are on the course, you are
there at your own risk.
-
The Friends Hut is not available for free
day use at any time. Overnight stays
require a fee and reservations. Call the 10th
Mountain Division Hut system for information.
-
The Trampe Family has been particularly kind
to allow us access across the East River
Valley and has asked that we respect their
property by not trespassing at any time before
or after the race. We are taking this request
with the utmost seriousness and ask that both
racers and other community members refrain
from skiing in this portion of the East River
Valley that is privately owned by the Trampe
family. Racers will be allowed on this section
of the course ONLY DURING THE RACE.
Mr. Trampe has asked that the community not
consider this an invitation to recreate on
this or any other privately held land. This
permission extends only to the race itself,
during the race, and doesn't include any other
winter or summer usage.
-
Similarly, Crested Butte Resort also requires
that you refrain from training at the ski area
during business hours. Uphill traffic is not
appropriate during hours of operation. A
(free) uphill pass is required when the area
is not open. Snow making and grooming is a
24-hour process on the ski area so travel is
restricted to OPEN UPHILL PASS TRAFFIC
ONLY.
We don't doubt that the vast majority of you
understand the generosity shown by the Trampe
Family and Crested Butte Resort and will respect
their requests. For those who don't get it yet,
here are a few bits of encouragement from the
Elk Mountains Grand Traverse:
-
Anyone skiing on privately owned property in
the East River Valley will be prosecuted for
trespassing.
-
In addition to the trespassing charges, racers
will be disqualified from this and any future
races. Entry fees will not be refunded.
-
Racers violating Crested Butte Resort
boundaries and policies will be subject to
prosecution under the Colorado Skier Safety
Act.
-
The groomed Nordic Trails in the Crested Butte
area require a trail pass that can be obtained
at the Crested Butte Nordic Center on 2nd and
Whiterock.
-
Please stay on Brush Creek Road at all times
and respect the private property that is on
either side of the road. This private property
extends almost all the way to the first creek
crossing.
